Connor Bedard reached a monumental milestone on Monday night, notching his 100th career NHL point during the Chicago Blackhawks' 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday.
The 19-year-old phenom scored a power play goal early in the man advantage after Calgary’s Martin Pospisil called for a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct in the second period.
It took Bedard just 112 games to hit the 100-point mark. He joined elite company as only the 24th teenager in NHL history to reach 100 points.
Fans were quick to react on social media, comparing Bedard to other legendary players who found success at a young age.
One fan wrote:
"Better than McDavid."
Another fan noted:
"Sidney Crosby did this in his rookie year alone."
"Quite a feat in less than 110 games," one fan tweeted.
Some fans argued that Bedard's goal was actually deflected off Tyler Bertuzzi's stick.
"Are you guys blind? Slow this s**t the f**k down and it clearly hits Bertuzzis stick & changes directions. It’s so obvious, how else does a puck magically move up right in front of the goalie??? Come on fellas," one fan wrote.
"I thought it hit Bertuzzi's stick for a deflection," another fan said.
"If you can’t see that this puck is Tipped in by Bertuzzi you need your f***ing head examined," a fan tweeted.
Bedard's 100 points are made up of 34 goals and 66 assists, demonstrating his well-rounded offensive game at just 19 years old.
Connor Bedard looks dejected despite reaching 100-point milestone
Despite reaching the 100-point milestone in just his second NHL season, Connor Bedard couldn't hide his disappointment after the Blackhawks' 5-2 loss to the Flames on Monday night.
"It's really frustrating," Bedard said postgame. "We're competitive athletes and we take a lot of pride in our games, our group as a team and our fan base. It's been hard. It's been a lot of games to lose. It weighs on you. Yeah, I mean, just trying to find a way of it."
Chicago has lost nine of its last eleven games, deflating any excitement Bedard may have felt over his personal accomplishment.
"[It was] a lot of whacking up the boards or guys not being where guys are expecting to be when they're making a pass," Bedard added.
The young star blamed the loss on a lack of chemistry and communication on the ice.
Bedard and Co. will look to bounce back when they face the Nashville Predators next at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday.
