NHL fans are in a frenzy after the Edmonton Oilers decided not to match the offer sheets from the St. Louis Blues for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Broberg got a two-year deal worth $4,580,917 per season, while Holloway received a two-year deal worth $2,290,457 per season. With Edmonton choosing not to match, the team will get a second-round pick for Broberg and a third-round pick for Holloway.
Following the announcement, NHL fans reacted strongly to the news.
"Oilers only getting a 2nd and a 3rd for those two guys is horrendous, that’s a big fail from Oilers management," a fan wrote.
"Dougy A masterclass," another fan said.
Opinions varied, with some fans believing it was a great move for the Blues, while others felt the team might have overpaid.
"Masterclass. Thank you for punishing the Nurse contract," a fan wrote.
"Blues fans overrating these guys. Have produced f all on the best offensive team in league. Broberg gets manhandled all the time," a fan added.
Many Blues fans were excited about the news:
"I doubt we look at these two in 2 years and think they were overpaid. Man, what a day to be a Blues fan," a fan wrote.
"I think it was a great move, and could end up being a huge part of this team going forward," a fan wrote.
Edmonton had cleared some cap space this week by trading Cody Ceci but chose not to match the offer sheets.
Oilers made another deal with Blues
After the announcement, Edmonton also completed a separate trade. The team acquired a 2028 third-round pick and unsigned 2023 fifth-round draft selection Paul Fischer from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations.
Earlier this week, Edmonton also dealt Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Ty Emberson. To add, the team traded a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for Vasily Podkolzin.
