Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno shared his thoughts after ending the team's five-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday at United Center. Foligno scored two goals, while Arvid Soderblom made 38 saves as the Blackhawks bounced back from a 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues in the Winter Classic.
Tyler Bertuzzi and Patrick Maroon also scored for Chicago. Bertuzzi scored on a 5-on-3 power play in the first period, while Maroon gave Chicago a 3-1 lead early in the third period. The Canadiens scored once in the third, but Nick Foligno’s second goal sealed the win for Chicago.
Foligno sent an encouraging message to fans following the win:
“We’re gonna start playing Blackhawk hockey the way you expect it.”
The Blackhawks played well despite missing key players like Patrik Laine and David Savard for the Canadiens.
Nick Foligno was frustrated after the Blackhawks' 6-2 loss in the Winter Classic
On New Year's Eve, the St. Louis Blues won 6-2 against the Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field. It was a special moment for both teams, with fans showing excitement before the game.
Cam Fowler scored twice in his 1,000th NHL game, while Justin Faulk added a goal and two assists. The Blues took a 2-0 lead early, with two power-play goals in the first eight minutes. Chicago responded with a power-play goal from Taylor Hall, but the Blues continued to dominate.
Jordan Binnington made 28 saves, while the Blues extended their perfect Winter Classic record to 3-0. Chicago struggled and allowed four more goals after their brief rally. Captain Nick Foligno expressed disappointment with the loss, saying that the team failed to play well in front of their fans.
“Chicago knows how to celebrate sports and our fans did not disappoint today, and I think that’s what makes it so [darn] difficult right now,” Foligno said (via NHL.com). “It’s just embarrassing to lose 6-2 in an environment like that at home. Our fans deserve better.
"It’s in this room to figure it out because that’s three games in a row where it’s not good enough. I don’t know. I really wish I had an answer for you. On this stage, with the excitement we had before the game, I thought this was going to be a turning point for our club and obviously it wasn’t,” Foligno added.
The game also had a great atmosphere with fireworks, music and fans cheering.
