The Boston Bruins have experienced an inconsistent start to the 2024-25 season, currently sitting atop the East wild card standings and just a point away from reclaiming third place in the Atlantic Division.

Despite this proximity, the team has yet to reach its full potential, leading to growing impatience among fans due to inconsistent results. The team's rollercoaster performance in the first half of the season has prompted vocal reactions from Bruins supporters, including booing the team at TD Garden and criticism of the club's top brass on social media.

In response to the mounting pressure, Boston Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs has voiced his support for the team's leadership, including president Cam Neely and GM Don Sweeney. Jacobs acknowledges the frustrations of the fan base but emphasizes his belief in the team's potential.

"I feel everyone’s frustration, and I hear it, too,” Jacobs said via NESN. “But, I feel it because, like our fan base, I am also a fan and I support this team. And I believe in our leadership. I know that’s been called into question quite a bit recently."
"If we look at Don Sweeney’s stewardship and Cam Neely’s stewardship since Don took over in 2015, we made the playoffs eight of 10 years. … I’m not going to measure success by making the Stanley Cup playoffs. Let’s be very clear about that. Our goal is to win the Stanley Cup. But you can’t win the Stanley Cup if you don’t make the playoffs, and he’s done it for the past eight years, and I hope we do it again this year for our ninth.”

In the lead-up to the March 7 trade deadline, Jacob indicated that he trusts in Neely and Sweeney to make the right decisions.

“I have faith that they’ll make the right decisions,” Jacobs added. “I don’t have the playbook for that. I have faith that they will make those decisions, though.”

What's next for the Boston Bruins?

The Boston Bruins snapped their six-game losing streak with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers last week and followed it up with back-to-back wins after defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 on Wednesday.

With a 22-19-5 record and 49 points, the Bruins currently hold the fourth position in the Atlantic Division and are atop the wild card standings in the East. The Bruins will hope to maintain their consistency when facing off against the Ottawa Senators away on Saturday.

The puck drops at 3 p.m. ET.
