The Boston Bruins have been nearly unstoppable this season. The club currently sits atop the Atlantic Division with a 39-7-5 record, while also being the only team with more than 80 points. Even after going through a three-game losing streak prior to the All-Star break, the Bruins are still 7-2-1 in their last ten games.
While the team currently has no glaring weaknesses, there is no reason why Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney should stand pat as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches.

In the past two seasons, Boston has acquired several important pieces that have contributed to the team's success this season. In 2021, the Bruins acquired Taylor Hall and Mike Reilly at the trade deadline, while also landing Hampus Lindholm at last year's deadline.
Bruins fans should expect at least one move by this NHL Trade Deadline, as the team could use some upgrades in small areas. Here's a deeper look at three players that Boston may add this deadline.
1. Jakob Chychrun might be the Boston Bruins' biggest target as the deadline approaches
As Sportsnet's Elliott Friedman wrote in his 32 Thoughts column last week, "Boston is also believed to be in the left-defence market. Would not be surprised if they’ve checked in on Jakob Chychrun".
The Arizona Coyotes defenseman has legitimate top four potential and would be an excellent addition to the Bruins' defensive core. The fact that he remains under contract with the club until 2024-2025, and is only 24 years old, would be added incentive for an aging Boston roster.

2. Luke Schenn might be a cheaper defensive option for the Boston Bruins
While Chychrun may be a more valuable asset, he will undoubtedly come with a hefty price tag. Enter Luke Schenn, who should be available for a drastically reduced cost compared to Chychrun. Given that the Vancouver Canucks have already made a significant move by sending Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders, Schenn will certainly be on the move as well.

3. Ivan Barbashev may bolster the Bruins scoring depth
While Boston will certainly be inquiring about forwards Timo Meier and Patrick Kane, Ivan Barbashev of the St. Louis Blues might be a more affordable and flexible option.
St. Louis Blues forward Ivan Barbashev can play at center and both wing spots. Despite his scoring output being down this season, he tallied career-highs of 26 goals and 34 assists last season, which should make him an intriguing buy-low for the Bruins.
