Brock Boeser spoke to the media after the Vancouver Canucks to the Calgary Flames, 3-1, on Tuesday. He said he was happy with the team’s effort and how they stuck together. However, he felt they gave up some rush chances and made small mistakes that cost them the game.
"I was just happy that we, you know, we stuck together out there," Boeser said. "And thought we played pretty hard, and I think we just gave up some rush chances against and just some small details that cost us."
Boeser also talked about his recent success, scoring six goals in four games, including a couple of two-goal nights. He mentioned that he’s just focused on working hard every day and hopes to score more goals and win games.
"I'm not really sure. I'm just coming to the rink every day," Boeser uttered. "I'm trying to work as hard as I can. And, you know, I wish I'd be scoring and winning hockey games right now. So I'm gonna keep, keep doing what I've been doing, and try and contribute to help our team win."
Boeser added that losing, especially in close games, is hard. The Canucks have eight overtime losses this season and two one-goal deficit losses.
"Obviously we've given up a lot of overtime losses and then, you know, really close games," Boeser said. "We've been playing a lot of close hockey games. So we got to make sure that we learn from these close games and prepare for, you know, each and every game that it's going to be like this. So, you know, we got to move forward. And we have a big game in Seattle."
This season, Boeser has scored 14 goals and 11 assists, ranking fifth among Canucks points leaders.
Brock Boeser's contract uncertainty with Vancouver Canucks
Brock Boeser’s future with the Canucks is uncertain. He can become a free agent in July, and his current contract ends this summer. His recent goal-scoring streak has led to rumors about a possible trade. NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal wrote on X:
"Are they looking for a winger in case things don’t work out with Brock Boeser? You also have to protect yourselves here in case you have to move Boeser if you can’t extend him."
Boeser was drafted by Canucks in 2015 and has been with them since. Last season, he scored a career-high 40 goals and 73 points. He missed part of the playoffs due to a blood clot in his leg. The Canucks are still working on an extension with him.
