Vancouver Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson addressed the team's recent struggles following a disappointing 2-0 shutout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.

Pettersson, who is signed to an 8-year, $92.8 million contract, returned to the lineup after missing time due to an undisclosed injury. Despite the Canucks' fourth straight defeat and nine losses in their last 11 games, the talented forward remains confident that the team can turn things around:

"Whatever we're going through now, we'll figure it out," Pettersson said post-game.

The 24-year-old acknowledged that the Canucks had plenty of scoring opportunities but struggled to execute:

"I think we had many looks that we didn't hit the net. Brock (Boeser) made a great pass to me on the power play. I tried to pick the corner instead of making sure to hit the net. Maybe I don't score, but I could create a rebound. Small details."

Earlier in the season, the Canucks looked like a playoff contender, but now find themselves clinging to the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

Pettersson has been sidelined since Dec. 23 after sustaining an injury during Vancouver's 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks, a game in which he scored two goals. Upon his return, Pettersson remarked:

"I felt good. Worked hard to get back and it was fun to be back. Felt pretty good. Maybe some puck battles I do want back but overall felt good."

Pettersson has 10 goals and 28 points in 35 games this season.

Canucks HC Rick Tocchet on 2-0 loss to Hurricanes

Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet voiced his frustration with the team's inability to capitalize on scoring chances:

"Well, I think we had 25 missed shots when we had attempts at the net,you know, out of like 50 total,"Tocchet said. "You got to hit the net. I mean, that's the frustrating part. We had a lot of o-zone time, but we're just missing opportunities."

Tocchet emphasized the need to simplify their offense rather than relying too much on passing plays:

"I mean there's opportunities to take the puck or like hit the net, shoot, like there's no magic tic-tac-toe stuff. ... We gotta try to generate some stuff, but we need people to move their feet too."

Vancouver's next test comes against the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Saturday as they look to bounce back from the loss.
