Nils Hoglander hasn't been playing very well this season for the Vancouver Canucks. According to NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal, the team is looking into the options to turn things around. Despite no official trade request from Hoglander, the team is apparently looking into a move to give the $9 million man a change of scenery.
Dhaliwal said that he was told that everyone, including the player's agent, is trying to revitalize Hoglander. Everyone wants Hoglander to thrive and to play with confidence once more.
The hockey insider added:
"There has not been a trade request made by the agent, but he has picked up the phone and he has called the Canucks. There is concern from the agent side. You do hear his name pop up in trade rumors. [They] are making calls on the market right now.
"You do hear teams want Hoglander, it does not sound like the Canucks want to move him right now, if they're working with the agent to fix this."
For now, no trade is imminent, but it's an option they're pursuing that cannot be ruled out amid a disappointing start with five points in 21 games so far.
Rick Dhaliwal cites Brock Boeser as evidence Canucks can turn around Nils Hoglander
If the team is to get Nils Hoglander's turned around, they may look to what happened with Brock Boeser not too long ago. Rick Dhaliwal pointed out that he was once in a similar spot:
“I want everyone to remember one thing, Ryan, about 18 months ago, the Canucks were trying to move Brock Boesar and his agent got involved. You know what? Let's get me to help, and we'll move Brock. He got out of that funk, and he ended up having his best season of his career last year. Brock's best for 40 goals."
Boeser has since completely turned things around and a trade would be laughed at by Vancouver. There is optimism that the same thing can happen with Hoglander, as Dhaliwal said "everything is fixable, as long as both parties want to fix it.” In this case, it seems that they do.
