The Utah Hockey Club defeated the New York Rangers 6-5 in overtime on Saturday night. Utah captain Clayton Keller scored the game-winning goal with about a minute left in OT.
The goal stunned Rangers fans but elated Hockey Club faithful. Here’s a look at what Utah fans had to say about the goal:
“Captain Keller!” one fan wrote
“What a goal dude!!” another fan commented.
“Keller is stellar,” this fan opined.
While some fans were overjoyed at the goal, others were upset about the officiating. These fans claimed that a blown call led to the game-winning goal.
“Why do the refs not have hold a press conference when they make ridiculous bad calls like goalie interference 15 feet into the circles?” this fan weighed in.
“Yea… Wes somehow missed a too many men in that rush down the ice which Utah had 5 players on the ice, while also neglecting to call the ever popular pick play aka interference,” another fan chimed in.
“It was the Wes McCauley show in this one,” a fan wrote..
Ultimately, the Hockey Club skated away with the win, making it three straight to start the season. Utah will be back in action on Monday against the New Jersey Devils, hoping to extend the win streak to four games.
Dylan Guenther is the breakout star for the Utah Hockey Club this season
A piece in Forbes written after Saturday night’s OT win over the Rangers described how Hockey Club forward Dylan Guenther is having a breakout season.
Guenther has scored five goals in his first three games this season. He scored twice in Utah's first two games while adding one more against the Rangers. Thus far, he’s atop the NHL leaderboard, ahead of proven goal scorers like Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews.
Whether he finishes the season atop the goal-scoring race is another story. Nevertheless, Guenther and the Hockey Club are off to a strong start as they look to make the playoffs in the team’s first season.
Guenther signed an eight-year contract extension with a cap hit of $7.14 million last month. The Forbes article points out:
“Guenther’s breakout is especially timely. ... Utah boldly locked up its ninth-overall pick from 2021 of a body of work that included just 78 total NHL games.”
That comment underscores how Guenther has proven that Hockey Club made the right choice by locking him up this season. Moreover, it suggests that Guenther’s deal could become a bargain, given how he started this season.
Hockey Club fans hope that this season is just the beginning of what could be one of the best contracts in the NHL.
