Carey Price shared his thoughts after Latvia’s surprising win over Canada at the World Juniors. He took to X on Friday and praised Linards Feldbergs, Latvia’s 19-year-old goaltender, for his great performance.
“Feldbergs, wow. Well done kid. On to the next one boys,” Price tweeted.
Feldbergs, a player for the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL, was key to Latvia’s win. He stopped 54 of 56 shots in regulation and the shootout. In overtime, he blocked all eight Canadian attempts. This performance was a big moment for him as he struggled against Canada in last year’s tournament.
Latvia’s win was their first ever against Canada in World Junior history. Feldbergs’ efforts earned him player of the game honors and praise from many, including Price. His steady play allowed Latvia to capitalize on key moments, including a shootout goal by teammate Eriks Mateiko.
For Feldbergs, the recognition from a respected goaltender like Price will be a special moment in his career.
