Carson Briere, son of Flyers GM Danny Briere, criminally charged for pushing wheelchair down the stairs

Buffalo Sabres v Philadelphia Flyers
Carson Briere, son of Flyers GM Danny Briere, criminally charged for misconduct.

Carson Briere, a Mercyhurst University men's hockey player, has been charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after a video went viral on social media showing him shoving an empty wheelchair down a flight of stairs. Briere was not alone in the video; he was seen conversing with Mercyhurst men's lacrosse player Patrick Carrozzi, who was also charged with the same offense.

The incident occurred on March 14th at a local bar called Sullivan's in Pennsylvania. The video, which was released by bar staffer Julia Zukowski and quickly amassed nearly 40 million views, showed Briere and Carrozzi pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of stairs, appearing to destroy it in the process.

The wheelchair belonged to a double amputee named Sydney. She tweeted the following day, thanking Sullivan's for their help and stating that she did not want to keep any of the donated money. Shr preferred to give it to those who needed it.

Mercyhurst University issued a statement on the incident, stating that their Office of Student Conduct and Department of Police and Safety are investigating the matter. The university also suspended Carson Briere and Carrozzi indefinitely from their respective teams, and the school is conducting its own investigation.

If convicted, a second-degree misdemeanor charge carries up to a two-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $5,000 in Pennsylvania. A conviction for a summary offense carries a maximum prison sentence of 90 days and a $300 fine.

Carson Briere and Carrozzi have both issued apologies for their actions. Briere's father, Danny Briere, a former NHL player and the interim GM of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, also apologized for his son's behavior. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the players to be held accountable for their actions.

Carson Briere's father Daniel Briere, the new GM of Flyers

Daniel Briere, the newly-appointed general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers, has had a week of mixed emotions. While he is thrilled at the opportunity to lead such an iconic team, he must also be disappointed in his son's recent behavior. Carson Briere's actions, which were captured in a video showing him pushing a wheelchair down a flight of stairs, have caused outrage and concern.

Despite this setback, it's important to acknowledge Daniel Briere's own accomplishments as a highly respected and skilled athlete during his 17-year NHL career. He scored over 300 goals, including a career-high of 34 goals during his time with the Philadelphia Flyers.

As he begins his new role as general manager, it's likely that he will draw on his own experience and leadership skills to guide the Flyers with integrity and excellence. While his son's actions are undoubtedly disappointing, they do not diminish Daniel Briere's own achievements and reputation as a respected athlete.
