Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Carter Hart has been sidelined due to a lower-body injury, according to Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer. The injury forced Hart to miss his scheduled start against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday (March 28).
The Flyers have called up Samuel Ersson from the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms to serve as backup to Felix Sandstrom in Hart's absence. Ersson has been playing well for the Phantoms this season, posting a 4-4-1 record with a 3.06 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
Carter Hart's injury has left the Flyers without their top goaltender, and the team will be hoping for his speedy recovery. While there has been no official timeline for his return, the team has stated that Hart is considered day-to-day.
The injury comes at a difficult time for the Flyers, who are fighting for a playoff spot in the competitive Eastern Conference with only a handful of games remaining in the regular season.
Carter Hart has had an up-and-down season, posting a 21-21-10 record with a 2.90 GAA and a .909 save percentage. However, he has shown flashes of brilliance at times, and his absence will certainly be felt by the Flyers.
As the Flyers wait for Carter Hart's return, they will be counting on Sandstrom and Ersson to hold the fort in goal. The Flyers will need strong performances from their goaltenders if they hope to make a push for the playoffs in the final weeks of the season.
Carter Hart joins Konecny, Couturier on the Flyers' injured list
Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny is inching closer to a return to the lineup. According to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Konecny was seen practicing with a non-contact jersey on March 17.
Konecny has been sidelined since February 20th with an upper-body injury and has missed the last nine games. The 26-year-old has been having a strong season, registering 27 goals and 54 points in just 52 games played.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Flyers center Sean Couturier took a step forward in his recovery from a back injury as he skated on his own on March 23, according to Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now.
Couturier has been sidelined for the last 15 months after last playing on December 18th, 2021. The 29-year-old center had six goals and 17 points in 29 games last season before being shut down due to the back injury.
