Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is still recovering from an undisclosed injury with no set return date. McAvoy has already missed two games, and the team is closely monitoring his progress before deciding on his return.

Talking to the Media after Sunday's practice, Coach Joe Sacco shared that McAvoy will miss the game against the San Jose Sharks, and his status will be re-evaluated after the weekend.

“He’ll be out tomorrow again and then we will just see how he progresses …," Sacco said. "Like I said, he was going to be out through weekend, then we will re-evaluate.”

Signed on an eight-year, $76M contract, McAvoy has been a key defense player for the Bruins this season. In 45 games, he has five goals and 15 assists, totaling 20 points. He averages 23:41 of ice time and contributes heavily in wins, with 12 points and a +18 rating.

However, his -16 rating in losses highlights how much the team depends on his performance. McAvoy also adds a strong physical presence with 86 blocked shots and 86 hits.

Drafted 14th overall in 2016, Charlie McAvoy has become one of the Bruins' most important players. Over his career, he has played 499 games, recording 297 points and maintaining a +146 rating.

In his absence, Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Carlo have taken on more responsibility on the top defensive pairing. While they have performed well, McAvoy’s elite skills are difficult to replace. His ability to control games and contribute on both offense and defense is vital to the Bruins’ success.

The team will reassess McAvoy’s condition soon, focusing on his full recovery before he returns. Until then, the team must rely on its depth to maintain solid defensive play.

Charlie McAvoy helped the Bruins break a six-game losing streak

In his last game prior to the injury, Charlie McAvoy helped the Boston Bruins break their six-game losing streak through a 4-3 overtime win against the Florida Panthers. He contributed an assist and two shots on goal in 21:54 of ice time.

David Pastrnak scored twice, including the overtime winner with two seconds left. Morgan Geekie and Oliver Wahlstrom also scored for Boston. Jeremy Swayman made 40 saves and played a key role in the victory against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

For the Panthers, Sam Reinhart scored two goals, including the tying goal with three seconds left in regulation. Evan Rodrigues added another goal for Florida.

Charlie McAvoy's presence will be missed in Bruins' next game, against San Jose Sharks, on Monday.
