Dallas Stars defenseman Thomas Harley caused quite a stir at camp when his wicked wrist shot shattered the glass during practice. A video of the incident circulated social media on Tuesday.
Fans were amused and took to social media to joke about Harley's powerful shot, with one tweeting:
"Coming out the paycheck! Break it you buy it" in reference to Harley's big new contract.
The 23-year-old Harley just inked a two-year, $8 million deal with Dallas last week after a breakout season where he led Stars defensemen with 15 goals and 47 points.
Another fan made a contract-related joke,
"new contract and he is out there wrecking stuff..." another fan wrote.
Meanwhile, a number of fans noted just how hard Harley can hit the puck.
"He should automatically qualify for the hardest shot challenge next all star game"
"Placing the over bet of him killing someone this year, a user commented.
"Apparently Thomas Harley is still jacked up after the Stars comeback win last night glass didn’t stand a chance" another user commented.
But while a handful of fans praised Harley's powerful shot, at least one fan took a shot at his aim.
"How you going to miss an open net like that?" one fan wrote on X.
The Dallas Stars are coming from back-to-back preseason victories, with a 2-1 win against the St. Louis Blues and a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Thomas Harley's take on signing a contract extension with the Stars
A 2019 first-round pick, Thomas Harley acknowledged that contract negotiations were stressful but he remained confident an agreement would be reached.
"I was confident it was always going to get done, that was never in doubt," said Harley as per NHL.com. "But it was a grind...I’ve seen it with other guys, so you’ve got some knowledge, but first-hand is different for sure. Little more stressful. It’s just a grind, that’s all it is."
The Stars see Harley as a core piece of their future blue line.
"Thomas is one of the league's top young defensemen," said Dallas GM Jim Nill.
Jim Nill also highlighted Harley's performance last season, saying it was indicative of his work on and off the ice to improve as a player.
Nill anticipates Harley to continue growing and for him to anchor the Stars' blueline for years to come.
