Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard gave an honest take on his team's outing at the NHL Winter Classic on New Year's Eve.
The Blackhawks suffered a humiliating 6-2 defeat to the St. Louis Blues in front of a packed crowd of 40,933 at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. The game was largely one-sided, with the Blues asserting their dominance from start to finish.
Connor Bedard acknowledged the significance of playing in such a special event. However, he expressed frustration over the team's performance, recognizing that they fell short of expectations and got "dog walked" during the game.
“It’s a special day. How many teams are playing outdoors this year? Four. So, we are fortunate to be one of those picked and we kind of get dog walked there. It’s frustrating for sure," Connor Bedard said via Dan Rosen on X/Twitter.
Bedard felt bad for the Blackhawks fans who came out to support the team at the Winter Classic. He acknowledged that the tickets for such events are expensive and highlighted the disappointment of fans who came to support the team only to witness a lackluster performance.
The only bright spots for the Blackhawks came from Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi, who managed to score in a game that didn't go their way.
With the win, the St. Louis Blues (18-17-4) improved their record to 3-0-0 in Winter Classic games, which includes a perfect 2-0-0 record against the Blackhawks.
This was the second straight win for the Blues over the Blackhawks, having previously beaten them 4-1 during the 2017 Winter Classic at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
