The Edmonton Oilers suffered a 5-3 on-road defeat to the Florida Panthers on Monday. It was the 11th loss for the Oilers this season, and with that, some fans appear to have given up on star Connor McDavid.
After three dramatic consecutive wins, it appeared that the Oilers' season was finally back on track, and the win in new coach Kris Knoblauch's debut game against the Kraken added to their optimism.
The Edmonton Oilers have now lost two straight games following an impressive winning run of three games. The Oilers got off to a great start in Monday's matchup, outscoring the Panthers 2-0 at the halfway mark.
However, the Cats remained hot throughout the game, and Connor McDavid's two-goal contribution was in vain. It was another game for the Oilers where their defensive woes continued.
Here's what fans said on X, formerly Twitter, following the Oilers' defeat. One tweeted:
"I guess the McDavid era peaked last year."
Here are some more reactions on X:
McDavid has accumulated 15 points on six goals and nine assists in 15 games so far this season.
