Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid commended Leon Draisaitl for his outstanding performance this season, particularly after the German's pivotal role in McDavid's goal during the 1-0 win over the LA Kings on Monday.

It couldn't have been a better birthday present for McDavid, who turned 28, than getting assisted by Draisaitl to score the winning goal on his special day.

Draisaitl showcased his skills by battling for a loose puck and setting up Dranell Nurse, whose one-timer shot was rebounded to McDavid, who capitalized on the opportunity to score.

"Yeah, it's a great battle, great skate, great battle off the ice. Yeah, makes great play to Nursey. Great play all around," McDavid said about the play.

He praised Draisaitl for his form, noting that he has never seen his teammate play better.

"He’s playing as good as I've ever seen. Obviously, really dug in on both sides of the rink, scoring goals, making plays, winning draws. You know, doing lots," he added.

With his assist on the night, Leon Draisaitl brought his total to 64 points (31 goals and 33 assists) on the season, making him one of the players to watch among Hart Trophy favorites.

Connor McDavid's lone goal propels Oilers to shut out LA Kings

On Monday, the Edmonton Oilers secured a 1-0 win against the LA Kings at Rogers Place, with Connor McDavid marking the occasion by scoring the game's only goal on his birthday.

He scored during a 4-on-4 situation late in the second period after Darnell Nurse's one-timer had rebounded right to McDavid, who found the back of the net from below the right circle at 18:37.

Meanwhile, Stuart Skinner delivered an impressive performance, making 31 saves and achieving his second shutout of the season, helping the Oilers secure their second straight win.

"It was very much a playoff game where two teams just went at it and played really solid,” Skinner said via NHL.com. “They’re a heck of a team. They know how to play us as well as we know how to play them. That is what makes it so much fun and so exciting."
"I’m really happy that we were able to get this win, especially after they beat us last game."

Connor McDavid and the Oilers face off against the Minnesota Wild next on Wednesday. The puck drops at 8:30 p.m. ET.
