Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid shared his thoughts regarding the players' mom trip to California, which coincided with a disappointing weekend for the team.
The Oilers faced a tough back-to-back series, losing 4-3 in overtime to the LA Kings on Saturday before dropping points to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
Despite the disappointing results, Connor McDavid highlighted the significance of the trip, noting that it was a special opportunity for players to share time with their mothers.
He acknowledged that while the moms may not have brought luck to the team, their presence was meaningful.
"Yeah, it was great. They didn't bring a lot of luck for us, but it's nice, obviously. Yeah, little different with the moms on the plane after the loss of the dads, but it was great," McDavid said (2:28).
"I think everybody in here would tell you that, your parents do so much for you, and obviously your mom in particular, so great to great to share that with her, and she had a great time.
"And Oilers organization obviously just puts on a great show for them and treats them so well. And think everybody's really appreciative of that," he added.
It marked one of the worst performances for the Oilers on the California trip. They will hope to bounce back on New Year's Eve at home when facing off against the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday.
Connor McDavid shared his thoughts about Matthew Schaefer's injury
Matthew Schaefer, one of the top prospects for the 2025 NHL Draft, suffered a clavicle fracture that will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship.
The 17-year-old defenseman sustained the injury during Canada's shock 3-2 shootout loss to Latvia last week. Connor McDavid shared his thoughts on Schaefer's injury, expressing disappointment over the timing of the injury.
McDavid said (via Edmonton Journal):
“Obviously he’s a great skater, and he’s going a million miles a minute and runs into the post there. Unfortunate. Those things happen. He’s young; he’ll heal well, but it’s extremely disappointing playing at the world juniors and in his draft year."
Meanwhile, Connor McDavid leads the Oilers as the second-leading scorer, after Leon Draisaitl (55 points). The Oilers captain has accumulated 52 points through 15 goals and 37 assists this season and is on pace for 118 points.
