The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't forgotten what happened the last time that they faced the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the matchup was in October, the Blue Jackets earned a decisive 6-2 victory.

Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube, who is in his first season behind the bench of Toronto, still remembers well what happened to his team the last time they were matched up against the Blue Jackets.

"I mean, you know, they don't forget about that, but you know, that's a different time," Berube said. "Now, we got to focus on what we just need to do tonight to be successful in the game. And that's what we talked about this morning. Our mindset going into the game, our motivational level, we got to check here tonight, and that's going to be important because of their talent and speed and things over there."

Berube then spoke about what the Maple Leafs need to do in order to pick up a valuable pair of points in their rematch against Columbus.

"So we're gonna, we have to play a tight checking game, and we'll get our opportunities, you know, I think that's got to be the approach," Berube added.

The Blue Jackets and Maple Leafs are scheduled to face off from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The Blue Jackets defeated the Maple Leafs by a 6-2 final score in October

In their first meeting of the season, the Blue Jackets earned a decisive victory at Nationwide Arena.

Before the opening 20 minutes of play was even halfway through, the Blue Jackets had taken a 3-0 lead via the goals from former Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk, along with Justin Danforth and Mathieu Oliver.

The offensive onslaught continued into the second period, as the Blue Jackets got goals from Sean Monahan and the second of the game from Oliver. The Maple Leafs got onto the scoreboard thanks to what was Matthew Knies' third goal of the season, only to have the Blue Jackets respond early in the final frame from Kirill Marchenko.

Toronto then scored their final goal in the game, thanks to Nicholas Robertson.

“I didn’t feel like we skated very well tonight,” Berube said after the loss. “They skated through us all night. We didn’t win many puck battles tonight, didn’t defend very well tonight and that’s what you get."

At the time, the Blue Jackets improved their record to 3-3, while the loss dropped the Leafs to 4-3.
