Dallas Stars vs Seattle Kraken Game 1 Recap
In the NHL playoffs, Joe Pavelski set a record for the oldest player ever with a four-goal performance, and he accomplished it on his comeback two weeks after entering the concussion protocol.
The Seattle Kraken probably had no intention of going into extra time on Tuesday. However, the Kraken recovered in overtime to defeat the Dallas Stars 5-4 on the road to win Game 1 of the second-round series despite blowing a two-goal lead in the third period.
After Yanni Gourde secured a rebound and scored from the right circle 12:17 into overtime, the Kraken, who had already defeated the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche two days prior, secured another sizable victory and avoided a major letdown.
The Kraken, who took a 4-2 lead in the first session after scoring three goals in a space of 52 seconds, were unable to defeat the Stars in regulation courtesy to Joe Pavelski. Given that he missed the previous five games due to injury, it was especially amazing that Pavelski scored all four goals for the Dallas Stars.
Jack Oettinger struggled early on, giving up four goals in the opening frame. 52 seconds later saw the addition of three of those tallies. Despite the Stars' Joe Pavelski's four-goal performance, Kraken's Yanni Gourde scored the game-winning goal in overtime due to confusion in the Stars' defensive zone.
After that, though, Oettinger resumed his previous form, when he only allowed one goal in the previous two games. In total, he made 29 saves in the second and third periods. Thus, removing any speculation of being out of form.
