Darnell Nurse’s wife Mikayla gushes over son Aiden sporting dad's #27 Oilers jersey

On Sunday, Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse’s wife Mikayla posted some special moments from the team’s latest game. Mikayla shared a two-part Story featuring the Oilers taking on the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

In the first post, Mikalya shared a photo of her son wearing his father’s hockey jersey. Her son can be seen clutching the glass and watching the action on the ice.

The jumbotron read “Oilers Win,” Mikayla wrote.

Darnell and Mikayla have two sons: Aiden (born in 2021) and Chase (born in 2023),

The second post was a short reel where Darnell can be seen interacting with young children and toddlers who lined up to meet their favorite hockey stars. Darnell bumped fists with the kids before leaning down and ruffling one child’s hair.

The Oilers secured a narrow 3-2 victory over the Sabres. Darnell had the assist for the game-winning goal as his backdoor feed to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins broke a 2-2 tie at 8:59 in the final period.

Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner made 39 saves, including 25 in the last two periods.

“I thought it was going to be a low-shot game again,” Skinner said after the game, via NHL.com. “I thought the way that we started was fantastic. I mean we came out flying. I was feeling a little cold, but as the game went on we got a few penalties that put them on the power play and gave me a couple of shots, and I kind of got back into it.”

Saturday’s game was the final one Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid was suspended for. The star center was suspended for a cross-check on Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland on Jan. 18. The Oilers had a 2-1-0 record without McDavid.

Darnell Nurse and his wife are high school sweethearts.

Darnell Nurse and Mikayla Marrelli started dating in high school at St. Mary's in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, as per Rachelaclingen.com. Mikayla, a dance professional, grew up dancing competitively and has trained at prestigious programs in Canada and the USA, including at Interlochen Center for the Arts and Debbie Allen’s summer intensive.

The couple got engaged in October 2020 and were married in 2022. Several of Nurse's Edmonton Oilers teammates and their partners, including Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Cody Ceci, were in attendance, as per Offside.
