The Vancouver Canucks are getting ready for the 2024-25 season. Last year, under captain Quinn Hughes, they finished first in the Pacific Division with a 50-23-9 record. They made it to the second round of the playoffs but lost to the Edmonton Oilers.
The NHL shared the Canucks' projected roster on social media and asked fans for their predictions. The projected lineup is:
Forwards:
- Nils Hoglander — J.T. Miller — Brock Boeser
- Jake DeBrusk — Elias Pettersson — Daniel Sprong
- Dakota Joshua — Teddy Blueger — Conor Garland
- Danton Heinen — Pius Suter — Kiefer Sherwood
Defense:
- Quinn Hughes — Filip Hronek
- Carson Soucy — Tyler Myers
- Derek Forbort — Vincent Desharnais
Goaltenders:
- Thatcher Demko
- Arturs Silovs
NHL captioned this post with these words:
"What are your predictions for the @Canucks in 2024-25?"
Soon, NHL fans started sharing their opinions on Canucks' projected roster.
"2025 Stanley Cup Champions! One of the deepest rosters in the entire NHL," one fan said.
"No cup," an NHL fan said, trying to troll the Canucks lineup.
"Depends if Demko and core players stay healthy but this team on paper can do some damage," another fan said.
Here are more reactions from fans on X:
"2025 Stanley Cup champions. Dusted the two finalists 9-4, mostly using their backup goalies. Demko had 3 wins (2 SO), DeSmith, and rookie Silovs also had 3 wins," a fan said.
"Call me crazy but I’d rather have a Debrusk-Miller-Boeser line and move Högs to Petey’s line," a fan opined.
"They are a 2nd pair defenseman and a middle 6 forward away from being a serious cup contender," one fan said.
"Deep roster, explosive offense, norris winner, vezina goaltender, 2025 stanley cup champions," another fan said.
Harvard goalie Aku Koskenvuo wants to follow Arturs Silovs’ path with Vancouver Canucks
Aku Koskenvuo, a 21-year-old goalie, had a quiet season at Harvard last year, playing 17 games. Despite this, he has traits similar to Arturs Silovs, who is the Vancouver Canucks’ starting goalie for the 2024 playoffs.
Drafted by Vancouver in 2021, Koskenvuo showed potential with a 5-6-4 record, a 2.95 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. This season is important as he aims to become Harvard’s top goalie.
Vancouver Canucks coach Marko Torenius notes Koskenvuo and Silovs have similar size and playing styles.
“They have a lot of similarities in size, athleticism, speed and power,” Torenius said (via NHL.com). “There's a lot of things.”
Koskenvuo is working to refine his game with the Vancouver Canucks’ system, focusing on small details for better consistency. He is influenced by Thatcher Demko’s systematic and adaptable game.
