During Monday morning's practice, Calgary Flames goalie Dan Vladar skated over to greet Johnny Gaudreau’s father, Guy Gaudreau, and showed him his special mask. They went for a hug and talked for a while.
Vladar honored Gaudreau and his family with a special mask before Friday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The mask featured black-and-white portraits of Johnny and his brother Matthew, white doves, Johnny’s No. 13 and Vladar’s No. 80.
Vladar will wear the mask again on Tuesday against the Blue Jackets. After the season, the mask will be auctioned to support the Flames Foundation. Fans called it a touching tribute to Johnny, who is still beloved in Calgary.
Insider Eric Francis shared a video of Vladar skating towards Guy to greet him.
Fans praised Vladar's gesture towards Johnny Gaudreau's father.
“Chills, man. That guy deserves all the love from this city,” one fan said.
"Seeing video of Guy out on the ice this morning was definitely needed. He needs it. The players need it," another fan wrote.
