Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde received a penalty for misconduct due to a fiery rant during the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during the second period, when the Penguins' Jeff Carter tipped-in and scored from a powerplay to make it 3-3. During Carter's tipped-in shot, the puck got caught underneath the pad of Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedelijkovic.
The Detroit Red Wings goaltender continued to slide to the crease while making the save. While doing so, it appeared that Penguins forward Jason Zucker had violated the goaltender interference rule by pushing Nedeliijkovic into the net.
Officials were quick to take action on the incident and reviewed it right away to see if the the puck had moved into the net. Eventually, after replaying the video of the play multiple times, it emerged that the puck did move into the net.
Following the decision, the Detroit Red Wings requested a coach's challenge for goaltender interference. The official then reviewed the play a second time, and after a thorough examination, it was determined that Penguins forward Jason Zucker had not violated the goatender interference rule, and the goal would stand.
Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde was not pleased with the decision. He raised his arms multiple times, firing some choice words before being ejected from the game.
"What the f*ck IS goalie interference?" Lalonde could be seen shouting. "What the f*ck are we doing here?"
