Don Cherry's daughter, Cindy Cherry, passed away unexpectedly at 67. Simon Dingley, a former CBC News producer, shared the news on Wednesday evening. Cindy died on July 15 at Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

Cindy's life reflected her deep devotion to helping animals and giving to charity. Her role as President of 'Don Cherry's Pet Rescue Foundation' kept her family's tradition of animal support alive. Her death leaves a void for those who knew her generosity and compassion.

Cindy Cherry was born on March 29, 1957 to famous hockey coach and TV personality Don Cherry. She worked with him on his charitable projects. Cindy lent a hand to various good causes and played a crucial part in setting up 'Rose Cherry's Home for Kids,' a place for sick children to rest in Milton, Ontario.

Though her sudden death brings sorrow, Cindy's good works in animal rescue and child care will endure. Her son Del, dad Don, and brother Tim take solace in knowing that Cindy's influence will live on through the Pet Rescue Foundation's efforts.

To keep Cindy's memory alive, people can give money to the foundation she supported. The Cherry family, Don in particular, was touched by the support. Cindy's passing creates a huge gap, but many will remember and treasure her spirit and commitment.

Don Cherry’s family legacy and philanthropy

Don Cherry was born in Kingston, Ontario, to Del and Maude Cherry. His grandfather, John T. Cherry, was in the North-West Mounted Police and a Great Lakes ship captain. On his mother’s side, Richard Palamountain served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Don’s father, Del Cherry, was an amateur athlete and an electrician.

Cherry’s hockey career took him to various North American cities. While with the Hershey Bears, he met Rosemarie Madelyn Martini, his first wife. They had two children, Cindy and Tim. When Tim needed a kidney transplant, Cindy donated one of hers.

Rose Cherry passed away from liver cancer in 1997. To honor her, Don Cherry founded Rose Cherry's Home for Kids, now The Darling Home for Kids in Milton, Ontario. A street in Mississauga, 'Rose Cherry Place,' also commemorates her legacy. Cherry married Luba in 1999.
