NBA star Kevin Durant has been spotted recently wearing a Boston Bruins hat. The Phoenix Suns power forward is currently with Team USA as the Olympic basketball tournament is set to get underway.
Meanwhile, hockey fans have begun speculating about Durant’s potential as an NHL star. In particular, Boston Bruins fans wonder if Durant would be interested in playing for the B’s.
Here’s what some fans had to say about the idea:
“Can he play center? Need a 1C,” one fan weighed in.
“Don make the call,” this fan Tweeted.
“Good bruins need a center,” another fan commented.
However, not all fans were impressed with the idea of Durant joining the Boston Bruins. In fact, some fans seemed turned off by the idea. Here’s what these fans commented:
“2016 me would have been so excited,” one fan chimed in.
“We don’t like that,” another fan opined.
“Yea that means nothing,” this fan chirped.
While the fans feel that the Boston Bruins need help up front, Kevin Durant won’t be the answer. The B’s will need to find other options at forward to help the club bolster its depth.
Meanwhile, Bruins fans can only hope that Durant changes his mind and gives hockey a shot, like Michael Jordan did with baseball.
Boston Bruins could look to the Kings for forward depth
A recent piece in The Hockey News explored the possibility of a Bruins-Los Angeles Kings swap with Arthur Kaliyev as the main piece.
The Kings forward has reportedly asked for a trade, making him an intriguing option for any club seeking forward help.
Despite his lackluster production, Kaliyev could provide the Boston Bruins with a useful bottom-six forward. At 23, Kaliyev has room to improve. Given the Bruins’ track record developing young forwards, Boston could be a good opportunity for Kaliyev.
However, the question mark would be the return for Kaliyev. While The Hockey News’ piece doesn’t go into details regarding the potential return, one could speculate that it wouldn’t cost the Bruins much to get Kailyev.
Perhaps the price could be a late-round pick or an AHL-level player.
Despite having a solid top six, the Bruins need all the forward help they can get. Beyond the fantastic top line featuring newly-acquired Elias Lindholm, the Bruins will need to support Lindholm, sniper David Pastrnak, and team captain Brad Marchand with supplemental scoring.
It could be that a change of scenery and structure could provide Kalivev with the environment he needs to thrive.
At this time, there is no solid reason to believe the deal could happen. But it’s a possibility the Bruins could explore as the summer wears on.
