As the drama surrounding J.T. Miller and the Vancouver Canucks continues, hockey analyst Paul Bissonnette has a take. There are rumors that the Canucks are considering trading either Miller or Elias Pettersson, and Miller seems more likely at this point.
Bissonnette said (29:15) on "Spittin' Chiclets" on Tuesday:
"Regardless of how bad things are with JT Miller right now, and the drama surrounding him, you don't give away this asset for nothing.... You know, he has played a lot of hard hockey over the course of the last 18 months.... Don't trade him for a first-rounder."
He added:
"Even if you don't make playoffs this year, and he's not very good, and things fizzle out to the point where maybe he's not even with the team anymore, I don't think it'll get there, but how desperate are 10 to 15 teams in the league gonna be this summer at trying to get a first two line center?"
Bissonette said that Miller would be a top-two center on any Stanley Cup team, adding that he has good leadership and is competitive. With that in mind, he would not move Miller for a small package if he were the Canucks.
He finished by saying:
"I don't give a f**k about your feelings. I don't care about nothing."
If he were the GM, it would take a king's ransom to trade Miller right now.
Canucks GM won't shut down trade talk about J.T. Miller
Whether or not J.T. Miller gets traded is ultimately up to Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin. Right now, he isn't willing to close the door on a potential move for the center.
He said via ESPN when asked about Miller's availability on Monday:
"I'm not going to go into any specifics and comments on any talks around the league, but since I got here, I'm always trying to explore how to make our team better and see if it makes sense or not."
Miller said he plans on being a Canuck until he's not. He's aware something can happen, but he's only focused on the next game and is keeping his head down during all of this.
