The Detroit Red Wings were met with boos from fans after suffering a disappointing 4-0 defeat to the St. Louis Blues at home on Monday, right before the NHL's Christmas break.
The Red Wings struggled for most of the game, spending nearly the entire first period on the defensive and allowing two goals in the second.
Fans who came to Little Caesars Arena hoping to head into the holiday break with a win were left frustrated and left without anything to celebrate.
Captain Dylan Larkin shared his thoughts on fans' reactions, acknowledging their frustration and expressing that the team felt the same way. He said:
"They're frustrated. We're frustrated. They're rightfully so (frustrated). It's when you play at home on a big night like tonight with the holiday coming up, great crowd, and we didn't give them any reason to cheer and have a good night.
"We feel it. They're rightfully frustrated as well. It's just a disappointing effort and disappointing game for playing on home ice before holiday," he added.
Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde noted that while the team isn't playing well, they have demonstrated the ability to step up at a high level. However, he admitted that their performance against the Blues fell short of expectations.
"They heard it a couple times last year too, and again, I think some of the boos; it's the frustration, because this group's showing it at times. We're not a perfect team by any means, but we've shown the ability played a pretty good level, and it wasn't enough tonight," Lalonde said (8:54).
The Detroit Red Wings head into the three-day holiday break with a 13-7-4 record, having lost three straight games. They next host the Toronto Maple Leafs (21-12-2) at Little Caesars Arena on Friday.

Apart from Holloway, Colton Parayko and Robert Thomas accumulated two points apiece in the win, while Jordan Binnington had a solid night between the pipes, making 19 saves.
