Dylan Strome has signed a new five-year contract deal with the Washington Capitals, with an annual salary of $5 million.
Vice President and General Manager Brian MacLellan confirmed the news:
"Dylan is an intelligent and skilled center and has been a great addition to our organization," said MacLellan. "We are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract. We feel his skill set is a great fit for our team as he enters the prime years of his career at an important position."
The 25-year-old Canadian was selected third overall in the 2015 NHL entry draft by the Arizona Coyotes. He was then traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Nick Schmaltz.
The Blackhawks signed Strome to a two-year contract extension in 2021. He became an unrestricted free agent in 2022 and joined the Washington Capitals. Strome also signed a one-year contract extension with the Capitals in July 2022. After only eight months with the team, the Capitals have re-signed him to a five-year contract.

As of this writing, Strome has played 52 games and amassed 36 points (11 goals and 25 assists). Since making his debut in the NHL in 2015, Dylan Strome has played in 325 games and has scored 78 goals with 128 assists.
The Washington Capitals currently sit fourth in the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference with 60 points. The team has played 53 games and won 27, with 20 defeats and six overtime losses.
Currently, the Capitals are 16 points behind the Carolina Hurricanes, who have 76 points. Washington lost 5-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday (January 30) at the Scotiabank Arena. The road to the Stanley Cup playoffs is tough and the Capitals have to play at a higher level more consistently.
Dylan Strome is one of the best forwards in the league and is a huge asset to Washington. After signing a new contract extension, it will be interesting to see how he performs for the Capitals in the coming years.
