Everything is on track in Leon Draisaitl's contract talks with Edmonton Oilers

Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers are discussing a new contract. Draisaitl's current deal ends after this season and Oilers GM Stan Bowman wants to keep Draisaitl long-term. On Monday, Bowman talked about Draisaitl at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup at Rogers Place.

“I had a good conversation (with Draisaitl’s agent Mike Liut) and we’re starting things off and the timing on that will be what it will be,” Bowman said (per NHL.com). “I don’t have an update of where it’s going to be or the timing on that, but there is nothing negative to report, certainly.”

Bowman also wants to re-sign Connor McDavid in 2025. The Oilers aim to build on last season's Stanley Cup Final appearance. They added Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner to strengthen the team. Bowman stresses focusing on the new season, not past achievements. The goal is to keep the core players and support them well.
