J.T. Miller's future is uncertain as the March 7 trade deadline approaches. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared updates on Miller's possible trade in Thursday's 32 Thoughts column. Friedman said the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes were allowed to discuss a trade for Miller.

"The Hurricanes and Rangers are two of the teams with permission to talk to J.T. Miller ... The Rangers have the cap room to do it, but the Devils would need to perform roster surgery to pull it off," Friedman wrote.

The Rangers, who are currently fifth in the Metropolitan division, are interested in acquiring J.T. Miller. They reportedly offered Filip Chytil, a first-round pick, and a prospect. With $5,020,186 in projected cap space, the Rangers are in a good position to make the deal.

The Hurricanes, who are currently second in the Metropolitan division, have also shown interest in Miller, but their offer is unclear.

The New Jersey Devils were also mentioned as a possible destination. However, Friedman doubts they can trade for Miller without big changes to their roster. Friedman also mentioned the Dallas Stars as a possible option, but their level of interest is also unclear.

Canucks GM avoids commenting on J.T. Miller trade rumors and team focus

Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin did not comment on reports about J.T. Miller’s near trade to the Rangers. Sportsnet reported that the Canucks considered benching Miller against the Oilers on Saturday due to trade talks. The deal, which involved players and draft picks, ultimately fell apart.

Allvin avoided specifics, saying he was focused on improving the team.

"I'm not going to go into any specifics and comments on any talks around the league, but since I got here, I'm always trying to explore how to make our team better and see if it makes sense or not," Allvin said (via ESPN.com).

Meanwhile, Miller said he is focused on his games.

"I'm planning on being a Canuck today, tomorrow," Miller said. "Whatever happens, happens. I'm focused on the next game."

Rumors also mention trade talks about Elias Pettersson, with rumors of tension between him and Miller. However, both players denied any issues. Despite their struggles, Allvin believes in the team’s core and sees room for improvement.
