NHL fans online mocked New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe after a video showed him learning some fighting skills from ex-NHL enforcer Georges Laraque.
Rempe, who stands 6-foot-8, left his mark on the NHL in his first season last term. Known for his physical style of play and fighting skills, the 22-year-old took the league by storm, getting into five fights in just 17 games.
Rempe went up against some of the toughest guys in the league. Despite his never-ending fighting spirit, Matt Rempe struggled on the ice and often took heavy tilts. To enhance his fighting skills for next season, Rempe chose to train with former enforcer Laraque during the offseason.
Here's a video of Matt Rempe's fighting training session with Georges Laraque:
The video capturing their training sessions quickly gained attention and went viral across the internet, prompting fans to give their reactions, as one X/Twitter user commented:
"This is a bad idea. It’s an embarrassment to the game."
Another fan joined the conversation and tweeted:
"Jake Paul next, he won’t"
"He'd be better served spending time with a skating coach so he could spend more time on the ice and not end up scratched from playoff games," said another.
Here are some of the other top reactions to Rempe's fighting training sessions with Laraque. Another wrote:
"Rempe lost all but 2 of fights lmao he should stick to the basics of hockey."
"All those saying he should spend time doing something else is ridiculous. He knows his role on the team. He’s obviously working on other aspects of his game as well. But it’s smart he learns how to fight," one fan opined.
"Looks like Georgie needs a little training himself, those burgers and fries are showing up," one humorously wrote.
