The Edmonton Oilers seem to be missing left wing Evander Kane, who has not played a game this season due to injury. Yet one positive aspect of the lengthy layoff for the star player might be that it has given him more time with his family.
His fiancee Mara Teigen recently shared an adorable family moment on social media. A drowsy Kane, who had his eyes closed, can be seen sitting still and getting his hair combed by his son and daughter.
The Instagram Story is just the latest glimpse into the family time that Kane has been getting recently. Mara had shared a carousel of the family’s Christmas celebrations on Dec. 28. The caption read:
“Here’s to another Christmas with a bun in the oven and my beautiful babies bringing the magic back into the holidays.”
Kane is currently on a four-year, $20.5-million contract extension with the Oilers. The forward reportedly played with a sports hernia for a large part of the 2023-24 season which led to him undergoing procedures to repair two torn hip adductor muscles, two hernias and two torn lower abdominal muscles.
Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch has already stated that they will have to wait until the end of January for a fitness update on Kane. The Oilers have not added him to the long-term injury reserve list, hoping that the 33-year-old will make a recovery before the playoffs.
Given their recent double loss on the road to the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, the team will be hoping for Kane’s return at the earliest.
Evander Kane celebrated the holiday season with family
The Edmonton Oilers’ forward is preparing for the birth of his fourth child, his third with Teigen. The couple already have two boys, Iverson and Hendrix. Kane also has a daughter, Kensington, from a previous marriage.
Kane has made the most of his enforced break from hockey, as the posts on his and Mara’s social media accounts made clear. He spent a happy Thanksgiving Day with his family, wishing his followers a “happy US Thanksgiving.” Canadians celebrate the holiday in October.
He also had an early family Christmas celebration on Dec. 15 and focused on off-field charity activities like his annual holiday initiative, where he provides gifts for underprivileged children and their families at Christmas. All in all, Kane has had a full year off the ice.
