Oilers forward Evander Kane’s partner Mara Teigen took to her social media on Wednesday to express concern for those impacted by the wildfire in Southern California. She also shared a few old tweets from Donald Trump where he criticized California governor Gavin Newsom regarding forest management and wildfires.
The wildfire has burned over 27,000 acres in Southern California, forcing more than 150,000 people to evacuate and resulting in at least five fatalities. It began on Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, fueled by strong winds, and has become a major disaster.
In her Instagram stories, Mara shared a series of posts to raise awareness and provide information about the fire. One post included old tweets from 2019 where Donald Trump addressed and criticized the role of the government in forest management, pointing to the importance of effective measures to prevent wildfires.
In the caption, Mara Teigen wrote:
“2019… 😔”
In the old tweets, the current President-elect can be seen addressing the challenges California faced during the 2019 wildfires, and mentioned that better management of resources and coordination with the federal government was necessary. Trump remarked on the government's accountability and financial issues related to wildfire prevention.
