Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane’s fiancée, Mara Teigen, gave an update on his recovery in her Instagram story. She praised him for focusing on his health and nutrition, crediting their household’s emphasis on wellness.
Kane recently had knee surgery and expects to recover in 4-8 weeks. On Tuesday, Mara, who is pregnant and due in mid-April, uploaded a story sharing the update:
"But Evander has had a couple of surgeries recently, and he just wants to be his healthiest self. He's been really focused on being his best self, which is so great. I love that for him. He's doing such a good job at taking care of his nutrition. I won't say thanks to me, but a little bit thanks to me because I like to run a very tight household that's very strict on health and wellness, especially for the kids."
The surgery follows an earlier hip and abdominal procedure in September, which addressed injuries from last season. Despite the setbacks, Kane remains optimistic.
“With regards to ... surgery, to be honest, I’m not frustrated at all," Kane said on Jan. 10, per NHL.com, "I’m actually really happy we were able to fix that and get me to 100 percent, so when I do come back and play this year, I’m feeling 100 percent. It might put a pause for a couple of weeks on my current rehab process."
He also mentioned that the time in recovery will be quick:
"I think the number that was out there was 4-8 weeks and that’s getting back playing after a surgery like this. In terms or rehabbing and training and continuing to feel better, that break is going to be very short.”
Evander Kane’s rehab includes pool exercises and light training, though he hasn’t skated since June. He faced challenges in playing through pain last NHL season, which affected his performance. Now, he feels much better and is focused on returning stronger.
Earlier Evander Kane explained the story behind knee issue
Talking about the recent surgery, Evander Kane explained that after his abdominal surgery, doctors found a knee issue that needed minor removal work.
“It’s something that kind of popped up ..." Kane said. "We finally got it looked at and found that there was something that needed to be removed in my knee ... It should be a pretty quick recovery."
Meanwhile, the Oilers are second in the Pacific Division with a record of 29-15-3 and 61 points below the Vegas Golden Knights. Kane’s eventual return could strengthen their roster and the defensive loopholes as they aim for postseason success.
