Hockey fans react as Team Canada announces its roster for NHL 4 Nation Face-off ft. Sidney Crosby

Team Canada has announced its roster for the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, and naturally, Sidney Crosby is headlining. This tournament, scheduled for 2025, will supplant the NHL All-Star Game that year. The normal event should return the year after, making the Face-Off a unique and potentially limited-time event. As such, the rosters chosen for each nation are very important.

Canada will roll out the following stars for their team:

  • Sidney Crosby
  • Nathan MacKinnon
  • Cale Makar
  • Brad Marchand
  • Connor McDavid
  • Brayden Point

These are some superstars from Canada that will be playing. Fans believe that not everyone on the list is worthy of being on this illustrious team, though. In particular, quite a few people have questioned the inclusion of Brad Marchand.

"I’m sorry but Marchand shouldn’t be a top 6 selection," one fan tweeted on X.
"One of these things is not like the others," another tweeted.

Not all fans were worried about the specific roster. Others believe the Canadian roster is a force to be reckoned with and that these players will likely win the Face-Off thanks to Crosby and company.

"Slap the C on Sid again," one tweeted.
"LOL Why even bother playing the games? That's just insane," one tweeted.

The other three nations will need to match this quality in the eyes of the fans.

Sidney Crosby won't retire before Face-Off

Once the face of the NHL, Sidney Crosby is no longer in his prime. He's getting older every year, probably inching closer to retirement. The former Pittsburgh Penguins star hasn't stated when he will retire, but it's likely sooner rather than later.

Nevertheless, he will at least play this season and be featured in the NHL Four Nations Face-Off. The future may hold something different, but the next year won't.

“I’ve always just gone year to year," he said (via NHL). "That’s always kind of served me well, as far as how I evaluate my game and that sort of thing. There’s always a lot of factors. But I think that’s separate from talking contract."

It's unclear if this will be a farewell season for the hockey star, but if it is, he will at least get to star for Team Canada.
