Captain America in the MCU is played by Anthony Mackie, a prominent actor who also happens to be a hockey fan. He showed his fandom by showing up to the only game on the hockey schedule last night: an exciting match between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.
It was a thrilling match between two of the league's best teams this season, both of whom are off to hot starts. However, Mackie's appearance in a Leafs jersey was the talk of the game.
Carlton the Bear, the official mascot of the Maple Leafs, shared the image on its official X account. NHL fans had their say on Captain America's fandom, and some were pretty surprised.
"Oh my god that’s amazing!!!" one exclaimed.
"Put a ‘C’ on that Captain!" another said.
"Captain America is a leafs fan," one said.
"MY WORLDS COLLIDING," another shouted.
It was a bit of a surprise for many to see the Leafs mascot with a fully decked-out Mackie, but a lot of them appreciated that one of the most popular actors was supporting their team.
Anthony Mackie supports Toronto sports
Anthony Mackie, an actor best known for his work as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also an avid sports fan. He hosted the ESPY's, a prominent sports award show, a few years ago.
Now, he's showing up to Toronto Maple Leafs games. A few months ago, he threw out the honorary first pitch at a game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox.
Mackie greeted players and the mascot, much like he did ahead of the Leafs' win over the Lightning, and strolled to the mound in a City Edition Blue Jays jersey and hat.
His first pitch, which included a full wind-up, was high and to the right of the plate, but he made it there without a bounce. That's more than some celebrity first pitches can say.
