Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov exit the first period of Game 3 against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday after suffering a lower-body injury.

On his final shift, Barkov was checked on the boards by Hurricanes' Jack Drury, which caused some discomfort to the Panthers captain, leading him to leave for the dressing room.

Barkov left the game with 7:04 minutes remaining in the first period. He did not return for the action in the second or third periods. Eetu Luostarinen took his place on the offensive line.

The team initially resulted in him being questionable for returning in Game 3, eventually exiting the contest entirely. Florida Panthers fans are worried about the status of their captain and took to Twitter to wish the best for Barkov.

Barkov is a Finnish professional hockey center and the captain of the Florida Panthers. He was born on Sept. 2, 1995, in Tampere, Finland. He's known for his exceptional two-way play and is considered one of the best defensive forwards in hockey.

The 27-year-old won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2021, which is awarded to the league's best defensive forward. Barkov holds dual Finnish and Russian citizenship and is the son of former Russian hockey player Alexander Barkov Sr.

He was selected by the Florida Panthers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft as the second overall pick.

Throughout his career, Barkov has achieved numerous milestones and records with the Panthers, including becoming the franchise's all-time leading goal scorer. Notably, he signed an eight-year contract extension with the Panthers in 2021.
