The Boston Bruins suffered a disappointing 7-2 loss against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night, leading to strong criticism from Bruins fans aimed at the team's management.
After the lopsided defeat dropped the Bruins' record to 8-8-2, fans took to social media to express their frustrations.
One fan tweeted:
"Fire Monty and fire the clowns in the front office."
Another fan wrote:
"Sweeney fired when exactly?"
Here are some more reactions from fans on X/Twitter:
"I blame Sweeney, not Montgomery. Built a slow big team. Might work better in the playoffs but not regular season," one fan wrote.
"For a team that set the all-time regular season points record to the biggest, slowest, untalented team in franchise history, with nothing between the pipes while the better goalie watches from the bench! Great mismanagement, Sweeney!" another fan said.
"Time to make Korpisalo our starting goalie and have Swayman as the backup at this point. This is the 2nd game against the Stars where Swayman has given up 5+ goals," one fan commented.
"That game sucked. Big strong team continues to try and play finesse. When they actually skate. Where is the hitting? As a wise man said to me this evening, Bruins are getting nothing from the middle 6," one fan added.
Evgenii Dadonov (two goals), Roope Hintz, Matt Duchene, Logan Stankoven, Mason Marchment and Oskar Back scored for the Stars.
For the Bruins, Charlie Coyle and David Pastrnak scored. Dallas’ Jake Oettinger stopped 23 shots while Jeremy Swayman saved 31 shots in the loss.
Boston Bruins HC Jim Montgomery's comments on 7-2 loss to Dallas Stars
Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery was left frustrated after the heavy defeat.
"They executed at high level, we didn't match the execution...," Montgomery said via NHL.com. "No, it's been frustrating all year that we haven't been able to string, you know, like 3 to 4 consistent games, you know, where we feel like our habits and details are consistently there."
Montgomery also pointed out Boston's lack of puck control and preparation as a major issue.
"The number one reason would be being prepared to know what you're going to do with puck before you get it," he added.
Montgomery and the coaching staff will need to refocus the team ahead of their next matchup on Friday night at TD Garden against the St. Louis Blues.
