Fans reacted as the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night.

The main criticism was Toronto's continued struggles on the powerplay, which went 0-for-3 and failed to capitalize on several prime opportunities, bringing their season total to 2-for-16.

Fans took to social media to vent their frustration, with one tweeting:

"Powerplay is still absolutely dog shit, genuinely embarrassing that Tavares is still on PP1" noting poor performance by Johan Tavares."

Another wrote:

"Another dominant effort foiled by a terrible man advantage game"

Here are some more fan reactions on X:

"There’s nothing powerful about the power play. PP1 needs a makeover," one wrote on X.
"Y’all saying to take Tavares of the pp but he’s the only one that goes to the net. It was clear we needed to get dirty goals and he’s the only one who was doing that," another wrote.
"That last minute was horrendous… why even bother pulling the goalie, special teams needs work… desperately," a user commented.
"Some terrible and some good plays, Shesterkin is unbelievable," another wrote.

Chris Kreider (two goals), Alexis Lafreniere and Artemi Panarin scored for the Rangers, while Auston Matthews scored Toronto's lone goal. Igor Shesterkin stopped 34 shots, while the Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz made 25 saves in the loss.

The Toronto Maple Leafs next face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday at home.

Auston Matthews' honest review of Toronto Maple Leafs' power play

Leafs captain’ Auston Matthews commented on Toronto Maple Leafs' struggling power play after they went 0 for 3 on the man advantage against the Rangers.

Matthews acknowledged post-game,

"We had some good looks, but then there's just a little bit of inconsistency there. So, obviously, we'd like to be better. It needs to be better, especially when you're going up against teams like tonight ...".

He stressed the importance of enhancing their performance during power play situations against rivals such as the Rangers.

Matthew also talked about Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin's saves during the power play.

"Very composed. He's not the biggest guy, but he's very athletic & seems to come up with big saves when his team needs it."

Matthews expressed a lot of respect for the way Shesterkin has played against the Leafs.
