New York Rangers star Alexis Lafreniere is one of the top players on their roster with a $52.15 million contract. As such, he is one of the most important players in turning the season around. Right now, New York is 15-14-1 after a second consecutive loss.
Lafreniere said after their latest loss:
"We just keep playing from behind in a lot of games and just putting ourselves in a tough spot to win games and always have to come back. We can force the play a little bit, so yeah, always sucks but got to find a way to win games."
The Rangers just fell to the St. Louis Blues despite a two-goal rally in the third period. The winger went on to say the team knows it has a good enough roster to get through this tough stretch.
Lafreniere added:
"We know we have the guys to win games and to be a good team, so just have to believe in our group and keep competing and get out of it as a team."
Lafreniere had two unsuccessful shots on goal but did record one assist in the 3-2 loss to the Blues.
Rangers star addresses tough stretch of play
Adam Fox was asked how much of the slide, which is now four out of five games and 10 out of 13, is affecting the team mentally. The New York alternate captain didn't have much he could say.
Via the New York Post, he said:
“I don’t even know how to describe the feeling right now. It’s definitely not good. We talk; we talk as a group and say to just try and be engaged. It definitely wears on you when you’re in kind of a streak like this.”
Filip Chytil, who had an assist in the contest, said they're “not in their best moment." He also acknowledged that this turnaround is going to take several days to really get going.
