Carolina Hurricanes fans are expressing their dismay after the team lost several key players—including Teuvo Teravainen, Brady Skjei, Brett Pesce, Stefan Noesen, Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Kuznetsov—to free agency and trades during the offseason.

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, NHL Network shared their projected forward lineup for the Hurricanes:

  • · Andrei Svechnikov - Sebastian Aho - Seth Jarvis
  • · Jack Roslovic - Jack Drury - Martin Necas
  • · Jordan Martinook - Jordan Staal - Jesper Fast
  • · William Carrier - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Eric Robinson

Many of the team's supporters took to social media to voice their frustrations on the projection. One fan expressed his disappointment at how the team has gone downhill every year.

Another fan predicted what the possible outcome may be with this lineup.

"The Carolina Hurricanes are cooked big time. The Canes are gonna be either 3rd in the Metro, a wild card team, or they'll miss the entire playoffs entirely," said @Keeshan26284093.

Carolina Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky Reflects on Free Agent Departures

In the aftermath of a busy offseason that saw several key players depart via free agency, Carolina Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky spoke openly about the difficult process of letting go.

"It is tough to see players leave," Tulsky told NHL.com last month. "These are players that have been important for us on the ice and that we care for deeply off the ice. I hate to say goodbye to people that have been a big part of our organization."

According to Tulsky, the Carolina Hurricanes made efforts to retain their free agents; but ultimately had to accept that some players may find better opportunities elsewhere.

"If they have other situations that are better for them, I am happy for them," he said. "It's our job to figure out how to react to that and how to take steps to keep moving forward."

While the Hurricanes will miss their former players, Tulsky expressed confidence in the team's ability to adapt and remain competitive in the coming season.
