Late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau was a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan. This year, the Eagles won the NFC Championship game, beating the Washington Commanders, and have punched their tickets for Super Bowl LIX.
On Sunday, Johnny Gaudreau’s mother, Jane, shared a throwback picture of Johnny and Matthew wearing Eagles jerseys with their numbers 13 and 21. In the caption, Jane cheered on the Philadelphia team.
“I know two incredibly happy fans in heaven,” she wrote.
“GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!! Going to the Super Bowl for the boys!!!! One more win,” she added.
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders, 55-23, on Sunday in the NFC Championship to secure their second Super Bowl appearance in three years. The Eagles forced five turnovers on the night, turning them into 35 points.
Eagles Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley made history as each rushed for three touchdowns, while A.J. Brown added 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Barkley’s 60-yard touchdown run on the opening play got things going for Philly, and the ultimate fumble recovery by Zack Baun in the third quarter sealed the game, as the Eagles closed with three unanswered touchdowns.

On Sunday, right after the NFC Championship game, Johnny Gaudreau’s sister, Katie, shared a throwback clip of Johnny Gaudreau in an Eagles hoodie and a green Eagles beanie in the kitchen. In the video, Johnny cheered for the team on camera, saying, “Go Birds!”
In the caption of the clip, Katie wrote:
“GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!!! Going to the Super Bowl for the boys!!!! One more win.”
She then reposted an old interview quote from Johnny back in his Flames days, where he disclosed how he and another Eagles-supporting teammate celebrated after the team’s Super Bowl win.
“Me and my buddy from Philly sang (Fly, Eagles Fly) a few times last night”, Johnny Gaudreau said in the interview.
