The Colorado Avalanche recently tweeted to the Detroit Red Wings on X (formerly Twitter). They questioned playfully about the Red Wings liking mom's spaghetti. They tweeted:
"Good morning, @DetroitRedWings. Do you like your mom’s spaghetti?"
After this tweet, NHL fans started reacting to it on X.
"This is gonna end in a brawl for sure," one fan said.
"Don’t f**king tweet the red wings", another fan commented.
"We don’t know u lil bro," one X user said.
Take a look at some more reactions from NHL fans on X.
"F**k you Colorado Avalanche," a fan tweeted.
"Hopefully they're nicer than Dallas was yesterday," one fan commented.
"C’mon @DetroitRedWings say something mean. Let’s reignite this rivalry. It feels like it died but I still don’t like you," a fan said.
This tweet follows a previous friendly rivalry between the Avalanche and the Dallas Stars. On August 2, 2024, both teams engaged in some online fun during the NHL offseason. The Stars made a dig at the Avalanche after being asked which Olympic sport they preferred.
There was also a memorable playoff event that created tension between these teams. Matt Duchene celebrated an OT winner with an arrow shot and a punch.
This recent tweet to the Red Wings is just another example of how the league’s teams continue to engage the fans during their off season.
Colorado Avalanche's roster challenges and search for top winger ahead of 2024-2025 season
In the 2021-2022 season, the Colorado Avalanche had one of the NHL’s best teams and won the Stanley Cup. Their success came from a strong roster with four solid forward lines and smooth defense.
As the 2024-2025 season nears, the Avalanche struggle to regain that depth. They’ve been missing captain Gabriel Landeskog and winger Valeri Nichuskin for most of the past two years. Landeskog has been out since the 2022 Stanley Cup Final with a knee injury. He hopes to return this season, but there’s no clear timeline. Nichuskin’s situation is less clear. He was suspended for six months earlier this year and may not return to the NHL or the Avalanche.
Missing these key forwards is a big loss. Both can score 25-30 goals when healthy and were important behind Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. The team needs a long-term solution, not just a quick fix.
Past short-term fixes haven’t worked, as the Avalanche have been eliminated from the playoffs for two straight years. They had success before, like acquiring Artturi Lekhonen at the 2022 trade deadline.
Last season, they traded defenseman Bowen Byram to the Buffalo Sabres for center Casey Mittelstadt. Mittelstadt is a good second-line center behind MacKinnon and helps with their championship hopes.
The Colorado Avalanche need a top-scoring winger. With limited cap space and young assets, it's tough to find one. To contend for the Stanley Cup, they need to address this need and improve their roster.
