On Wednesday, the Montreal Canadiens agreed to a six-year, $33.3 million contract with Kaiden Guhle. Guhle will earn $5.55 million per year. NHL insider Frank Seravalli shared the news on X, saying,

"Canadiens getting work done: Kaiden Guhle is 6 years x $5.55 million."

Noting that the extension includes a five-team no-trade clause in the final year of the deal, the announcement has sparked significant reaction from fans on X.

"Overpaying all their AHLers why?," one fan said.
"Gonna win a cup before the Leafs," another fan commented.
"Habs are getting their ducks in a row for a long run of success it’s beautiful to watch things come together," a fan tweeted.

Kaiden Guhle is one of the key players in Canadiens' defense

Kaiden Guhle, 22, is seen as a future top-pairing defenseman. His contract shows the team's confidence. He became eligible for an extension on July 1, like Juraj Slafkovský.

Guhle played 70 games with the Canadiens in 2023–24. He scored six goals and had 16 assists. He served 56 penalty minutes. Guhle ranked second in blocked shots with 178 and third in average ice time with 20:51.

He played his 100th NHL game on February 29 against the Panthers. He has 40 points in 114 NHL games since his 2022–23 debut.

Guhle also represented Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, scoring five points in nine games. He earned silver at the 2021 World Junior Championship.

Guhle was picked 16th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Canadiens. He reached career highs in goals and assists this season.
