Johnny Gaudreau: The playoff hero
NHL Network’s memorable tribute recalled one of Johnny Gaudreau’s unforgettable moments. The tribute highlighted Gaudreau’s OT winner in Game 7 of the Flames’ first-round series against the Dallas Stars.
With a little under five minutes to go in the first overtime period, Gaudreau buried a rebound that somehow found its way into the back of the net from a nearly impossible angle.
The goal sent the Stars off while the Flames celebrated a hard-fought playoff series victory. It was the crowning moment in Gaudreau’s best NHL season, where he tallied 115 points during the regular season.
Nevertheless, that OT tally will forever live in Calgary Flames history as one of the team’s most important moments. Gaudreau left Calgary that offseason to join the Columbus Blue Jackets. But he will forever live in the hearts and minds of Flames fans. He will be sorely missed, not just in Calgary, but all over the NHL.
