Montreal Canadiens rookie goaltender Jakub Dobes made his NHL debut on Friday, helping the Habs win 3-2 in overtime against the Caps. Dobes remained calm and focused, which has helped him win his first three NHL games.

The Canadiens played well, with Nick Suzuki scoring an overtime winner. His goal came at 1:15 after a broken 2-on-1 pass deflected in front of the net. Suzuki’s goal gave the Canadiens their third straight win, all in overtime.

Cole Caufield made an impact by scoring for the fifth game in a row and adding an assist. His consistent scoring has been crucial to Montreal’s success. Suzuki praised the team’s growth, saying that they are learning how to win and gaining more confidence with each victory.

“We’re still a young team and we’re learning how to win the past couple of years,” Suzuki said. “We’ve kind of figured out the recipe for us and each win gives us more confidence to go out and do it again.”

Dobes, who made 15 saves, spoke about how he stayed calm in overtime.

“I was a little nervous until we got into OT because I really wanted to take the point from these guys,” Dobes said (via NHL.com).
“When we got to the OT, I was a little bit even more calm. It’s more like I really focus on grabbing points, so when we took the one point, I was pretty happy. We took two, I was thrilled. So, it was a good game today.”

The Canadiens have won six of their last seven games and are building confidence with each victory.

Caps earn overtime point, but Lars Eller stresses need for improvement

The Caps earned a point by taking the game to overtime, but their winless streak continued. Lars Eller, who scored for the Caps, said that the team needs to improve in some areas.

“It’s good to get points for sure, and good teams are finding ways to get points when they’re maybe not at their best,” Eller said.
“But you also have to be aware that there are some things that aren’t good enough, and sometimes points can mask that a little bit. So, we can’t fall into that trap. We have to keep pushing ourselves to be better and I know we will.”

Charlie Lindgren started in goal for Washington but left in the second period after a collision with Suzuki. Logan Thompson stepped in and made 18 saves, but the Canadiens' early goals made it difficult for him.

The Caps, with a record of 27 wins, 10 losses and five ties, next face the Nashville Predators, who have 13 wins, 21 losses and seven ties, on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST.
