Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube made his feelings known about the goalie tandem of Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz following Monday's 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Despite Woll's impressive five-game winning streak, Berube opted to start Stolarz between the pipes against the Hawks. Stolarz grabbed the opportunity with both hands and put up a solid performance on the night, making 27 saves and posting a .964 SV%.
With Monday's win, Anthony Stolarz brought his total to eight wins this season, with six of those victories notably coming after previous losses, showcasing a solid save percentage.
When asked about the dynamic between the two goalies, Berube said postgame:
"They've got a great relationship, and I think they really are tight, and that goes a long way for everybody in the room and the whole team. That camaraderie is important, and they have it, so it's good."
(from 12:50 mark onwards)
Woll and Stolarz's tandem goalie performance played a significant role in propelling the Leads to the top of the Atlantic Division, leading the second-placed Florida Panthers by one point.
Stolarz has posted an 8-4-2 record with a 2.23 GAA and a .924 save percentage in 24 games this season. On the other hand, Joseph Woll has a record of 6-2-0 with a 2.13 GAA and .923 SV% in eight games.
Stolarz's numbers are solid with a good save percentage and goals allowed, while Woll is also putting up impressive stats this season. The Leafs would hope for Stolarz and Woll to continue their strong play between the pipes as the season progresses.
Auston Matthews returns for Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews was back in the lineup for the team in their 4-1 win over the Blackhawks on Monday.
Matthews had been sidelined with an upper-body injury that kept him out of the lineup for nearly a month. However, his return was a boost to the team in every aspect.
He scored his sixth goal of the season, which was also his first since returning. Overall, he contributed two points for the team in the victory.
"Just try to get better, feel better each game," Matthews said. "Just continue to get my legs back, the lungs back, and just get back in game shape," he said after the game via Sportsnet.
The Maple Leafs are on a two-game winning streak and face the Nashville Predators next at home on Wednesday. The puck at Scotiabank Arena is scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m. ET.
