Vancouver Canucks coach Rick Tocchet shared his thoughts after the team's 2-1 overtime defeat to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
The loss added to the frustration of Canucks fans, as the team has only won one of their last six games, with that win coming against the Kraken in a shootout.
During this stretch, the Canucks have lost five times, three in overtime, putting them on a two-game losing streak in extra periods. The Canucks now hold the record for most overtime losses (10) in the league.
Against the Capitals, the Vancouver Canucks played captain Quinn Hughes as much as they could during overtime. But it still ended in another loss, thanks to Pierre-Luc Dubois' game-winning goal.
Tocchet noted the difficulty of not fully healthy Hughes' ice time and rued not converting their chances to register a win in overtime.
"We can’t play (Quinn) Hughes the whole game I don't have an answer for that. You know, we had some chances, unfortunate what happened," he said (2:53).
Despite the frustrating defeat, Tocchet was impressed with the overall performance and effort shown by his team.
"Yeah, played a good hockey game. That's a top team in the league, and I thought we did a nice job. Guys worked hard," he added.
The Vancouver Canucks are fourth in the Pacific Division with a 18-12-10 recrd and 46 points and are second in the West wild card standings.
The Canucks will continue their road trip, as they face off against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena next on Friday. The puck drops at 7 p.m. ET.
