Vancouver Canucks coach Rick Tocchet shared his thoughts about Elias Pettersson's impressive two-goal performance in the 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
Pettersson made a significant impact by scoring the third and fourth goals for the Canucks inside a minute during the second period. However, his shift took a turn when he exited the ice with an undisclosed injury in the third period.
Tocchet said that Elias Pettersson was feeling banged up but suggested that the injury might not be serious:
"Yeah, he got banged up. I think it was in the second, so he tried it for one shift, and, you know, we got the break. So I don't think it's too bad. We'll see how it is."
Tocchet also praised Pettersson's performance, noting that his goals played a key role in injecting energy into his teammates. He's hopeful that this performance will encourage Pettersson to regain his confidence.
"Yeah, it's nice. Two great shots, things like that loosen people up, you know, hopefully that'll kick start him to enjoy himself. You know, I thought, you know, obviously I like a celebration after you I like that. Get a little it was nice to see a guy like him scoring like that, and get excited. I think the fans like to see that too," Tocchet added.
Pettersson has accumulated 28 points through 10 goals and 18 assists in 34 games this season. The Vancouver Canucks enter the holiday period with a 17-10-7 record and are fourth in the Pacific Division.
